St. Joseph's Academy (SJA) is a co-educational day school located on Rajpur Road, in the heart of Dehradun. Founded on 2 March 1934 by the Patrician Brothers (Society of the Brothers of St. Patrick, Ireland), the school began with just 15 students and 7 staff members under its first principal, Bro. Adrian Keogh, and has since grown into one of Dehradun's oldest and largest day schools, spread across a 17-acre campus. The school offers education from the primary years through Class XII, following the ICSE curriculum up to Class X and the ISC curriculum through Class XII.

Heritage & Legacy

St. Joseph's Academy has a history spanning over nine decades. The school briefly offered boarding facilities following the completion of its Heritage Building in 1936, but this was discontinued in 1976 due to space constraints, and the school has operated as a day school since. Until 1975, the school prepared students for the Senior Cambridge Examination administered from England, before becoming an affiliate of the CISCE board in 1976. Over the decades, the school has celebrated several institutional milestones, including its Silver, Golden, and Platinum Jubilees, reflecting its long-standing presence in Dehradun's educational landscape. Its auditorium — built in 1984 — was inaugurated by Mother Teresa, and its alumni have gone on to contribute across diplomacy, law, business, sports, cinema, and other professional fields.

House System

Students are organised into four houses, each named after one of the school's founding Brothers: Donovan (Yellow), Duffy (Red), Dooley (Green), and Bergin (Blue). The houses compete throughout the year in events such as Cultural Week (Confluence), Sports Day, and the House Cup, which recognises the house with the most points accumulated over the academic year.
